This beautiful antique Japanese style bronze chandelier with six lanterns was made in the second half of the 19th century.
The bronze structure of this chandelier with numerous stained glass is the result of a very elaborate work. On the lower part have been chiseled dragons with remarkable details. The upper part, reminiscent of Asian architecture, is adorned with small tiles that evoke scales.
Stained glass with a japanese repertoire and style have been made with great finesse. Each stained glass has a different scene. While on the large central windows are represented a woman and a man in traditional dress as well as birds seen from various angles, on the stained glass of the small suspended lanterns are represented, an umbrella hiding a silhouette crossing a bridge, tree branches, rivers, birds and other flowers. This chandelier plays on the light which will give life to these scenes.
Fauna and flora are the favorite motifs of the Japanese art which inspired Europe through Japonism in the second half of the19th century. Indeed, with the various exchanges that took place between France and Japan from 1858, the year of the signing of a commercial treaty, and the contribution of the international meetings World's Fairs, the West discovers the Japanese art. At the Paris World Fair in 1867, Westerners are both surprised and attracted by the Japanese and Chinese pavilions which give to artists new motifs and new aesthetic that will have a great fortune.
