This charming pair of brown patina bronze candlesticks with circus bears is attributed to Christophe Fratin . The bears, who seem to be dancing, have a hoop on their right shoulder surrounding their bodies. The baton and juggling balls placed at their feet refer to the bear trainer. With its left paw, each bear is holding a tripod vase with large handles adorned with a frieze of vines on its head. The sense of movement and vitality that the sculptor gave the animals’ bodies expresses the trick that they’re completing. The lower part, shaped like a swirling shell on top of three frogs, forms a circular base for the dancing bears.
