This stained glass window with mousquetaire decor is of exceptional quality. Its decor and the technique put into creating it is of a rare quality. This stained glass window is signed "Bitterlin Paris 1883".

The Bitterlin glassware workshop already existed in Paris in 1842. Later on, it was his son, Paul Bitterlin, who took on the workshop and became the upholder of the firm. Henceforth, in 1878, Paul Bitterlin employed 40 people and worked under the title of "artist painter-engraver-glassblower." In fact, before being a glassblower, Paul Bitterlin was known as an engraver, a practice that he went on to do his whole life. Paul Bitterlin took part in large universal expositions of his time, one to particularly make note of, the one that took place in Paris in 1867. At this exposition, he showed a large stained glass window with a portrait of the Empress Eugénie as well as the Virgin and child. The years 1870-1880 established Paul Bitterlin. From then on, requests flooded in. It is then that he made the stained glass mirror Sacré Coeur for the chapel Saint-Pierre-du-Gros-Caillou in the seventh arrondissement in Paris in 1878. A year later, he made all the stained glass windows for the orphanage chapel Saint-Charles in the 15th arrondissement in Paris. His success was so well appreciated that he was asked to retell the "story behind engraving on glass with hydrofluoric acid" at the Universal Exposition of 1878. This stained glass window, dating back to 1883, is thus the work of an artisan in full possession of all his artistic means and at the height of his fame.
