This gilded wood overmantel features a blend of nature and ancient Greek motifs, typical of the Louis XVI style. The top of the overmantel is adorned with several symbols referring, one might assume, to Greek mythology. There's the quiver of arrows referring to Cupid, and the flame referring to the fire brought to man by Prometheus. These two intersecting symbols are topped by a bird. The garland in the middle of the overmantel is easy to spot, as it spills over the mirror. It is composed of roses, daffodils, other types of flowers, and buds, all with leaves. The overmantel is framed by a frieze of laurel leaves and fruit, again harking back to Ancient Greece. The inner contour of the overmantel is made up of pearls, a motif often used in the Louis XVI style.
