This large Napoleon III-style gilded overmantel is remarkable for the large garland that spills over the mirror and intertwines in the overmantel. The garland is made of laurel leaves, which are found at the top of the overmantel next to the central motif. The central motif is that of a coat of arms, from which cut leather and ribbons emerge.
The overmantel has simple and rectilinear shapes that feature rounded inner corners, contrasting with the outer corners that protrude from the rectangular structure. Throughout the frame of the overmantel, the same motifs are repeated, notably that of the pearls.
The use of laurel leaves, reminiscent of Greek Antiquity, and the use of pearls and ribbons are reminiscent of the Louis XVI style, a style used in the Napoleon III style initiated by Empress Eugénie.
