Bell dating from 1778 engraved with the following: "C DU MERY ME FECIT BRUGES 1778" and a Masonic symbol. Complete with its 18th century mechanism.
In 1741 a fire destroyed again the bell tower of Bruges. A new carillon with 47 bells was ordered to replace the original one from 1299. Most of the bells were cast by Georgius (Joris) Dumery (1715-1787) and set up in the bell tower. < br /> Still today the town of Bruges has remnants of Dumery’s work, the carillon continues to chime and many clocks and bells bear the signature “Georgius Dumery me fecit”. Joris Dumery also worked in the bell towers of Tielt, Zottegem and Gand.
