Style Louis XV / Ref.14557

Important Louis XV-period Carved Oak Paneling

Dimensions
Width 426'' ⅜  1083cm
Height 132'' ¼  336cm
Depth: 213'' ⅜  542cm

Origin:
18th century

This large oak paneling from the Louis XV period (1715-1774) was executed in the mid-18th century, a period of moderation and refinement of the Rocaille art.

The panels that comprise it feature a supple ornamentation of foliated shells and curved, yet symmetrical, vegetal scrolls; these incorporate shells, a favored ornamental motif of the time. The use of mirrors, placed behind shelves, and the depth of the door frames visually enlarge the room.

The paneling includes an elegant fireplace from the same period in Rouge de Rance marble. Topped with a scalloped shelf, it is adorned in the center with a circular cartouche with cut edges, decorated with leaves suspended from acanthus leaves. Its curved jambs echo the carvings of the paneling.
