This antique Neo-Gothic style walnut fireplace dates back to the late 19th century.
Its form copies the composition of the Gothic chimneys of the Middle Ages, with a big hood and a sculpted decoration. A decor of lancet archs, slender columns and balusters recall the interior architecture of the cathedrals.
Two dragons animate the edges of the hood, while the face is occupied by a sculpted group representing the archangel St Michael slaying the demon. St Michael appears with his tack and his sword slaying the devil in a human shape, as on the fountain of Francisque Duret installed in Paris (1860, St Michel district).
An expressive head, with a feathered hat, adorns the frieze of the mantelpiece.
