Mantel from Burgundy carved in Corton stone in the 18th century, in a Louis XV style with a beautiful crossbow shaped profile.
The console jamb rise up to hanging palm leaves. A delicately curved entablature presents a central ornament: a composition of musical instruments set against a laurel branch attached with a bow. The carving is enhanced by the play of colors in the marble, here of a pink beige hue.

Corton stone is quarried in Burgundy and presents an interesting palette of colors from beige to mixtures of beige and blue or pink. It is a very fine limestone enriched with fossil shells.
The Louis-Philippe bridge in Paris that links the l'Île de la Cité to the right bank is made of this stone.
