Neoclassical style Sarrancolin and white statuary marble mantel. This model presents detached columns on the jambs. Of Doric inspiration, the shafts of the fluted columns are in Sarrancolin marble, the bases and moldings of the capitals in white marble, as is the floral frieze that runs along the entablature. The original full cast iron insert is elaborately decorated with an Antique scene.
Mantels with columns are rare and in great demand. Here the use of two types of marble enhances the value of the composition. Since Louis XIV, Sarrancolin, a breche type of marble, has been a choice material for the elaboration of mantels. The Neoclassical style borrows from the Louis XVI, Directoire and Empire periods. Very pure, this style spans the whole of the 19th century.
