Mixing neoclassical influences and the bucolic, this mantel evokes the refined flowery and bright colored interiors of the reign of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. Set against a straight lined structure, two columns protrude and form the jambs. The neoclassical influence is shown in the use of filleted fluting with gilded bronze rods nestled in the flutes, and a pair of capitals above with broad acanthus leaves equally in gilded bronze. This ornamental rigor is tempered by the decoration on the more delicate and pastoral decoration on the entablature. A gilded bronze swag heavy with roses, ribbons and bows is placed on a protruding central rectangular element, while gilded bronze beading runs across the entablature underlining the molding. The marble is 19th century Fleur de Pêcher (Peach Flower) with a white and enameled insert with a decor of pink and yellow roses, green leaves and blue ribbons.
