This important Louis XV-style mantelpiece was carved in Sarrancolin marble in the 19th century.
The lintel is adorned with a shell surrounded by scrolls from which rise several foliage scrolls adorned with small flowers. The curved inner line of the lintel is interrupted when it joins the jambs, forming two volutes with a palmette. The jambs are also carved with shells set in a concave cartouche at the top, and end with a finely executed acanthus leaf at the bottom. The polychrome richness of the marble enhances the sculpted ornamentation in an exceptional way.
This fireplace is sold with its original cast iron insert and with its marble floor, which is broken but will be restored in our workshop.
