Excellent condition. A crack in the enameled inlay and a missing handle on the iron curtain.
Blue Turquin marble fireplace mantel from the 19th century. The style is pure Louis XVI with elegantly symmetrical straight fluted legs, rosettes and a repetitive frieze along the entablature. The bronze inlays are the original, as are the enamelled insert with the utensil holders and the iron curtain. Its Louis XVI style gilded overmantel mirror is sold with the mantel(not included in, the price) (see number 9236).
TURQUIN BLUE MARBLE. The quarries are located in Serravezza in Italy. Turquin blue marble was used essentially for furniture and fireplaces in the Louis XVI, Directoire and Empire periods. The fireplace of the Salon des Fleurs in the Château de Compiègne was made in this marble.
