At the end of the reign of Louis XIV the lines of mantels became softer and more ornamental motifs were applied. Here the Bolection model has become a far away reference. Indeed the entablature and jambs have become distinct elements: the molding running across the frieze stops above the jambs creating a sort of capital above the console jambs. The former spandrels have become larger motifs, frames, not in relief, but delimited by a double row of moldings. The jambs are adorned with filleted flutes then rise up to a curved panel.
The marble is a magnificient Breche from Saint-Maximin, a very rare quality of marble.
