In excellent condition. Original mercury gilt. Sumptuous chiseling.
This pair of andirons of superb quality was made in the time of Louis XV, 18th century. The gilding was done with mercury, according to the processes of the time, which is now extremely rare.
The two andirons show identical pedestals, animated with foliage depicting beautiful curves. On each, a child sits, dressed in short pants and shirt half open, playing blowing bubbles of soap. The detail of the textures of the garments is remarkably precise, as is the description of the chubby bodies.
Superb quality of the chiseling.
