This pair of Napoleon III style andirons was realized in the late 19th century by the Maison Morisot.
The Louis XVI style gilt bronze pedestals revisit the Antiquity with the presence of urns, pinecones, lion paws and garlands. They are finely chiselled and openworked, and each supports a patinated bronze Cupid leaning on its quiver and its bow. The expression of the putti, the details of their hair and their wings, show a quality work.
Maison Morisot, located at 76 rue de Turenne in Paris, was specialized in the manufacture of fireplace accessories (andirons and firescreens in particular). It exhibited from 1855 to 1889 and was awarded several medals at the World's Fairs .
