This pair of andirons was made before 1900 in gilded bronze. The quality of the chiseling, gilding and bronze work are quite exceptional.
Bouhon Frères Manufactory is also known as "Bouhon et Cie." Great Parisian bronze manufacturers, they were specialized in making firescreen, andirons and fireplace accessories. The firm participated in the Universal Exhibitions of 1878 and 1900.
This pair of andirons is illustrated in the book "Great Exhibitions: London, New York, Paris, Philadelphia, 1851-1900" by Jonathan Meyer, page 322 (see images). The andirons were presented by Boucheron on their stand at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1900. Boucheron, extremely famous, opened its first shop in 1858 in the Palais Royal.
