Beautiful pair of Louis XVI style firedogs in gilt and patinated bronze with putti

Dimensions
Width 13'' ¾  35cm
Height 11''   28cm
Depth: 4'' ⅜  11cm

Origin:
19th century.

This beautiful and elegant Louis XVI style pair of firedogs was made of gilt and patinated bronze in the second half of the 19th century from a model by the ornamentist Jean-François Forty that was realized in 1785 by the founder Jean-Noël Turpin.
On a rectangular gilt bronze base adorned with a friezs of pearls and flutes, lays an acanthus leaves scroll departing from a torch and from where is escaping a patinated bronze putto which is warming his hands.

Many copies of these firedogs exist, especially one conserved in the musée Nissim de Camondo in Paris. Another copy was ordered by Marie-Antoinette in 1786 for the salon des nobles de la Reine in the château of Versailles before disapearing during the Revolution.
