This beautiful antique Romantic style fire fender in gilt bronze was made in the 19th century. It is decorated with hunters feline: while a roaring lioness keeps a wild boar on the ground on one of the andirons, a lion is engaged in a duel already won against an eagle. The posture of this lion is inspired by the Lion and snake, a sculpture made by Antoine-Louis Barye (1795-1875), French animal sculptor and painter, exposed at the Louvre Museum.
