This rectangular fireback was made of cast iron in the late 19th century.
Rococo decoration composed of shells and acanthus leaves. We can see two putti getting closer to the sat goddess half naked, one of them is holding a tridend, the other sat on a sheep of which she's cuddling the head, a crown.
Aphrodite was the divinity of the "civic understanding and harmony". The foundation of the Aphrodite Pandemos cult in Athens was attributed to Thésée and considered as a consequence of the Athenians reunion in an only city. Aphrodite was thus "the whole population goddess".
