In very good condition.
This beautiful antique fireback was made during the 17th century.
The arms of the city of Paris take the form that we know of from 1358 when king Charles V received the right to carry the royal arms (leader of the fleurs de lys and the royal crown). The ship featured refers to the large coporation of "Nautes de Lutèce", shipowners and merchants which navigated on the Seine in ancient times. Here, the vessel is surmounted with a crest.
