This rare antique fireback model was made at the end of the 18th century in carved walnut.
The scene represents a putto crowning Euterpe, the muse of the Music. Often represented with a flute, Euterpe is here associated with the lyre to symbolize "the whole enterprise of discovery and expression of the harmony of the cosmos".
The fireback models are rare objects of great decorative quality.
