This beautiful antique cast iron fireback was made in the 20th century. The Lorraine coat of arms is represented in the center. A ducal crown is on the top of the fireback. The fireback is signed "De Cousance".
The history says that firebacks were invented in the Cousance foundry where the first blast furnace was constructed in 1553.
