The cast iron statues of this exceptional fountain bear the signature of the famous Val d'Osne foundry . The fountain was created around 1870-1880 to decorate the park of the Chateau du Pian of Bouliac, near Bordeaux.
The group of the two back to back statues represents the mythological couple Acis and Galatea composed according to a model by the sculptor Mathurin Moreau. This group was exhibited for the first time on the occasion of the World's Fair of 1855 on a monumental fountain composed in collaboration with Michel Joseph Napoléon Liénard.
We find the same couple of Acis and Galatea on the "Fontaine de Tourny", commissioned to decorate the city center of Bordeaux in 1857. The "Fontaine de Tourny" is today on Parliament Square, Quebec, Canada .
Cast iron statues only are available. A precise schema of the stone elements was made and a quotation is available for the realization of all the stone elements, which can be carved in our workshops.
