Wrought iron Gothic style cross from the 13th century with a diamond motif creating a delicate oblong quatrefoil in the center.
Gothic architecture appeared in the Paris region in the 12th century. Religious and lay buildings as well as upper class houses were built in this style. However cathedrals are the most visible incarnations of the style. Gothic crosses appeared in the 13th century and blossomed throughout the 14th century, and even until the 16th century. The cross often adopts a rectangular or lozenge panels, often with a quatrefoil and later with flamboyant curls.
