This beveled mirror adorned with a Venetian engraved mirror surround was executed in the second half of the 19th century. It is a fine example of decorative art under French emperor Napoleon III.
Its oval-shaped stucco frame features an abundant decoration finely executed with a succession of beaded and ribboned friezes, as well as an engraved mirror surround of daisies. At the top, two putti hold draperies on either side; the frame is crowned with a cartouche adorned with a monster’s head and two cornucopias with graceful curves.
The ornamentation of this mirror draws inspiration from both the Rococo style (in the upper part) and the Louis XVI style, a characteristic blend of decorative arts under Napoleon III.
