Maison des Bambous Alfred PERRET et Ernest VIBERT (attributed to) - Japanese style bed with dragon

This bed, inspired by the Far East and made in the 19th century, is attributed to the Maison des Bambous by Perret and Vibert. The headboard is crossed by a menacing dragon and adorned with a fan. On the head and footboard, there is also a decoration of birds and flowers in marquetry of bone and ivory.

Alfred Perret founded in 1879 in Paris a workshop specialized in the production of luxury bamboo and wickerwork furniture as well as in the importation of authentically Japanese objects for a well-off and Parisian clientele. Located at No. 33, rue du Quatre-Septembre, the workshop specializes in the early 1880s in the manufacture of carved wood furniture of Far Eastern inspiration and lacquer furniture. > In 1886, the company was taken over by the son of Alfred Perret and Ernest Vibert. The company becomes " Perret and Vibert " and will take the name " Maison des Bambous " in the early 1890s.
Perret and Vibert , true creators of their time, participate to the World's Fair of 1889 taking place in Paris and win two silver medals. Following this first exhibition, they exhibit in various events: in 1894 at the Universal, International and Colonial Exhibition of Lyon and at the Tuileries Horticultural Exhibition and in 1900 again at the Universal Exhibition of Paris.
