This bed was made in the late 19th century in tainted sycamore. Its shape and decoration are typical of the Japanese movement of which the furniture maker Gabriel Viardot was a famous enthusiast.
The headboard is adorned with a carved decoration depicting tree branches and flowers made in ivory inlaid. A small polished varnished bronze dragon comes to animate the whole. The feet of the bed are taking the shape of impressive lion paws.
